The importance of orthotics and appropriate footwear
Choosing the right shoes is crucial in the treatment of peripheral neuropathy. Poorly fitting or unsupportive shoes can put excessive pressure on the nerves in the feet, thus worsening the pain. It is recommended to opt for shoes with good arch support, which helps prevent flat feet and avoids stretching or compression of the nerves.
Orthotics, or orthopedic insoles, are also very effective in supporting the arch of the foot and reducing pressure on the nerves in the feet. It is advisable to wear orthotics not only outdoors but also at home, opting for slippers or sandals with good support. This helps maintain foot stability throughout the day, thus reducing nighttime pain.
