The two most prominent and telling early signs of pancreatic cancer include:

1. Jaundice (Yellowing of the Skin and Eyes)

  • What it is: Jaundice causes the whites of your eyes and your skin to turn a yellowish tint. It is often accompanied by telltale companion symptoms, such as dark, tea-colored urine, pale or clay-colored stools, and intense, generalized itchy skin.

  • Why it happens: This occurs primarily when a tumor develops in the head of the pancreas and presses against the common bile duct. Because the duct is blocked, bile cannot flow into the intestines and instead builds up, causing bilirubin levels to spike in the bloodstream.

  • Clinical Significance: Unlike many other symptoms, jaundice tends to manifest earlier if the tumor is located near the bile duct, sometimes allowing the cancer to be caught before it spreads widely. Any unexplained yellowing of the skin or eyes requires immediate medical evaluation.

2. Unexplained, Rapid Weight Loss and Loss of Appetite
