If you walked into a kitchen that looked like this, what would your first thought be?
Would you immediately think the homeowner was lazy? Disorganized? Overwhelmed? Or would you wonder what might have happened before judging the person who lives there?
A messy kitchen can tell a story, but it doesn’t always tell the story we expect.
Dishes piled around the sink, cookware left on the stove, crowded countertops, and cabinets that haven’t been organized in a while can make a home look completely out of control. But a messy house does not automatically mean that the person living there doesn’t care.
Sometimes life simply gets overwhelming.
A person may be working long hours, raising children, caring for an elderly family member, dealing with financial pressure, recovering from an illness, or going through a difficult period emotionally. Cleaning can quickly become something that gets pushed to the bottom of the list.
And once a mess becomes large enough, it can actually become harder to know where to begin.
You look at the entire kitchen and think, “This is going to take forever.”
So you do nothing.
Then another day passes.
Then another.
Before you know it, a few dishes have become piles of dishes, a few items on the counter have become clutter everywhere, and cleaning feels like an enormous project instead of a simple household task.
